It all began in Brighton. Now it's February 2003 and there is a serial killer on the loose. Scotland Yard′s brightest talent is chosen to head up the high-profile taskforce: Jack Hawksworth is a DCI who must confront his own past as the body count rises. There are few leads and Hawksworth can only fall back on instinct and decades-old cold cases for any clue to the killer′s motive and identity. With his most loyal team member threatening to betray him, a Superintendent pushing for results, a hungry British media clamouring for information, and a restless public eager for a conviction, the high-pressure operation can only end in a final shocking confrontation…

I really enjoyed this read! I loved our main character DCI Jack Hawksworth, he seems like a nice guy but doesn't sound like he has the best of luck in personal matters. He also has some people that don't like him in the force as he's risendthrough the ranks fairly quickly and has something from a previous case that seems to still lurk over him even though it was all cleared up! And now he has a very high profile case to deal with!
I liked the two female characters that Jack chose to be on his team, Kate who definately has the hots for him! And then Sarah who just wants to show that she can do things to help and really wants to do her job well. I loved these characters and liked the scenes with them both in, especially after Jack has a word with them! They are both very sharp officers and each had thoughts that led to a breakthrough in the case.
I thought the storyline itself was so cleverly done, we didn't at first realise who it was that was doing the killing, and it was revealed to us bit by bit - as was the reason as to why they were doing what they were doing. It was a very difficult story to share from our killer and it was also hard for the detectives to hear and you could see that they were really torn when they found out.
I thought the book was really well written and I loved the pacing of it, I'm glad to know that there is another book coming as I really did like Jack and I'm hoping we get to see more of the other team from this one too!
