A young mother is fighting for her life after falling from her third-floor balcony, and police question the last people to see her alive, her three best friends who, an hour earlier were celebrating her birthday at her flat.
But as the investigation develops, so does the network of suspects. With the victim’s husband front and centre of the case, the focus widens to his contacts and associates, revealing a chilling connection not only with the crime in question, but with those in charge of preventing it.
Forced to work alongside her arch-nemesis from the past, DCI Matt Preedy, DS Ronnie Delmar finds herself trying to untie the complex knots of the case, while simultaneously looking over her shoulder at her own colleagues and questioning the motives of those she thought she trusted.
Police procedural meets psychological thriller - this is the third in the DS Ronnie Delmar series and is set against the backdrop of contemporary policing, in particular the post-Everard scandal of misogyny and misbehaviour in the force.

Just wow! I loved the prologue to this - it had me gripped from the off. I have a confession to make - this is actually the first of Lucy's books that I have read so even though it is book 3 you do not need to have read the other 2 in advance - I am however going to go and read the previous 2 books as if they are as fabulous as this one then I'm excited already!
As this was the first book that I had read it was also my first introduction to our main character DS Ronnie Delmar who I really liked. It sounds as if things have been tough for her previously but she is good at her job, even if sometimes she does play a little close to the edge! Ronnie is a likeable character and I do hope that we get to her more from her.
The storyline was like - I think it's all of them!! There was means and motive for it to have been any of our main suspects but I loved the way it all came together piece by piece. I will say that I was NOT expecting it to be who it was, I absolutely did not see that coming. I had an inkling - but not about that person! I honestly thought it was someone else. (I must say that I am relieved that I was wrong however!) I thought the ending was just brilliant and was VERY revealing about things that had happened.
Huge thank you to Random Things Tours & Lucy Martin for allowing me to take part in the blog tour in exchange for a free honest review.
