The Family Secret by Mikayla Davids ~ Review & Blog Tour

Writer's picture: HalesHales

This family reunion should’ve been a fresh start for us all… but now someone is dead.

My heart is thumping with fear as I stare out at the snow-capped mountains. This ski trip to the French Alps was meant to be a chance for me and my two sisters to put the past behind us after years of not speaking. Instead, I’m expecting the police to knock on the door of our chalet.

I’d planned for our families to get to know each other, sipping hot chocolate while laughing together around the fireplace.

I didn’t think our winter getaway would end in murder…

Any one of us could be the killer. We all have a motive. And we’ve all been lying.

I should never have come here. If anyone discovers my secret my life will be in danger.

Can I trust my own family?

Or am I next…?

Well........... This is part two of the Bailey family series and just when I didn't think it could get any better after book one - I was wrong! Now if you’re wondering if you need to have read the first book before this one - no you don’t technically as the key points from book one are summarised rather nicely in this one but I highly recommend that you do read book one as it's brilliant and really does set the scene for this one.

I wasn’t convinced that book two would be as good if I’m honest as book one was rather surprising and filled with Bailey family secrets – but it appears that there’s more!! This book is set just after the Christmas in book one and the family are still dealing with the aftermath of what happened then, so what better idea than Erin taking the family to her chalet in France – what could possibly go wrong on snowy mountains?!

It is clear in this book that some of the sisters are still struggling with what happened. Sasha is turning to alcohol more and more; Leah has still not told anyone about her stalker, and they seem intent on tracking her down. Erin is still annoyed that Sasha seems to have ‘got away’ with everything as her initial plan in book one did not go to plan so she is still set out to look for ways to turn her plan back around. Their mum Nadia is still trying to do the best for each of her girls, but does she go too far?

Add in a hunky man who is pursuing Leah but may have an ulterior motive, the girl’s father being unexpectedly released from prison, a nosey neighbour who’s in on it all and then three 10 years olds – what could possibly go wrong!  This was action packed once again and I honestly wasn’t sure who was responsible for what, and how this was going to end. It kept me gripped throughout and there was some twists and turns along the way.
