I might be a grandmother. But I’m not some sweet, harmless old lady who people can push around.
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother.
They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by.
I think their father, Vince, killed my daughter. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I warned her he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.
But then, most people have a dark side — and I’m no different.
Now he wants his daughters back.
Over my dead body.
I finally have a family of my own. And nobody is going to take it away from me.
I loved this book! It is told from two points of view; the grandmothers and the fathers. And I love the way that they alternated and moved the story forward between them, it was very easy to follow. Our two main characters are Yvonne who is the grandmother and then Vince who is the father.
I think that from the outset I just felt really sorry for Vince, he was one of those guys who makes bad decisions and then regrets making them. He’s too soft to go back on those decisions at times and seems easily led on some occasions. He’s always in trouble too, yet despite all this he seemed really genuine and caring especially when it came to his children.
Vince was however keeping a secret, but then so was Yvonne! Andy I definitely think that Yvonne’s secret was the bigger one! I wasn’t quite sure what Yvonne was going to do next at times as anything could’ve been possible. Whilst she wasn’t expecting to find herself with the two girls I do think she did care for them in her own way.
There were twists, turns and secrets being revealed throughout the book which kept me gripped as I honestly had no idea where this was going. And those twists kept on coming right until the very end! Brilliantly written!
