The Rutland Identity by Michael Dane ~ Review & Blog Tour

Writer's picture: HalesHales

Rutland 1998. When George Bowman, the publican of Leighton Parva’s Old Volunteer Inn is found dead at the bottom of his cellar steps the police dismiss it as a tragic accident. But Frank McBride and Bernard Taylor aren’t so sure.

Teaming up with their neighbour, Ron Godsmark, their suspicions centre on Joachim and Hannah Keller, the Swiss couple who manage Leighton Hall, the wedding venue just outside the village.

Bernard sends his granddaughter, Emma, on an undercover mission, working at the hall as a waitress. Together they stumble upon a web of intrigue involving fraud, smuggling and murder.

Frank believes that he can persuade his old colleagues in Customs and Excise to investigate, but Bernard has something else entirely in mind.

Crime deserves justice. Murder requires revenge.

I loved this book! I have to start by saying that I haven’t read the first book in the series but I will definitely be going back to read it! It didn’t make any difference to the enjoyment of the story that I hadn’t read the first and I don’t think there was anything that I’d missed out on that was relevant to this one.

I really liked our main character Frank and warmed to him quickly. I must admit that some of the escapades with him, Bernard and Ron had me laughing out loud!!

I thought that the storyline was great and it quickly had me engrossed and wanting to find out what was being hidden. I just loved the way that Frank and Bernard seemed so good at getting people to do things for them, without even asking at times!

It was very interesting and brilliantly written! I do hope there’s a book three.
