Trouble in Combe Tollbridge by Roseanna Hall ~ Review & Blog Tour

Writer's picture: HalesHales

When Combe Tollbridge opens its doors to visitors, its colourful residents realise all too late what trouble it can bring to their sedate village life...

Combe Tollbridge, on the Exmoor coast, is a quiet fishing village always happy to welcome visitors for the sake of the local economy, but when an irritating journalist looks like staying overtime, a dine-and-dash couple plays tricks in the neighbourhood, and a family with more than one secret to hide features in the national news, the mixed blessing that is tourism becomes all too clear.

Meanwhile Professor Tolliday visits the coastal village for the first time in fifty years with his family. The once irresponsible student has come back to make belated amends, but it is his mischievous little granddaughter whose holiday fun causes the most trouble for the village.

I feel like this was a little book of short stories combined all in one place and book! There wasn't a 'main' storyline as such but several smaller storylines. I loved how Combe Tollbridge was described and I loved how the locals spoke in what I call proper olde english and localisms which made me smile!

The cast of characters was definately eccentric but were a lovely bunch! Some of the stand outs were poor Angela who seemed to work everywhere bless her but sounded like ! I liked Mike and Mikey too they were quite an amusing double act at times! I honestly thought that Professor Tolliday had something much more major that he was wanting to make amends for! And his granddaughter was definitely a little character!

It was a nice cosy read, at times a little confusing as the traditional language and events that were taking place did make it seem a little hard to follow but I did enjoy reading about some of the local tales and fables of Combe Tollbridge.

Huge Thanks to Random Things Tours, Rosanna Hall and Farrago Books for my place on the blog tour.
